Importance of a Catchy Logo Design

Importance of a Catchy Logo Design

Logos are unique shapes belonging to institutions and organizations such as companies, sports clubs, communities, etc. created with texts, images, icons, symbols or geometric shapes. These institutions and organizations come to people’s minds when they see these shapes of the institutions and organizations called logo. It is in a way the purpose of using a logo. The reason underlying the use of logo is to be recognized and distinguished from equivalent institutions and organizations by people by means of this logo. For example, when people buy biscuits, they rarely read the information on the package. The first thing they pay attention to is the logo of the brand. They buy it when they see the logo of a brand they like. A logo means both the name and identity of the brand for the customer.

The companies designing logo pay attention to dozens of things when they create logos for their customers. One and maybe most important of these is the colour of the logo and the figures it contains. Logo designers, who know the effects of the colours on human psychology very well, determine the colours in accordance with the field of activity of the institution or organization for which they design the logo. While some colours assure people, others excite them. While certain colours sentimentalize people, some colours irritate them. These psychological effects of the colours are benefited in the logo design  industry, just as in many other sectors such as art, politics and marketing.

Logos dominated by black try to express formality and seriousness. However, this colour is rarely used in private sector as it can also lead to pessimism. It is generally preferred in the logos created for official institutions. White is used as a font in many logos. For, it gives tranquillity to the addressee and increases the power of thought. Logos designed using the colour blue create senses of freedom and infinity in those looking at them. Although people do not easily admit being emotionally affected by colours, the science says they are. Thus, the emotional effects of the colours are used in logo design, just as in many other areas. For example, the use of different shades of blue in the logos of two social media giants as Facebook and Twitter is quite wise in order to give the members the sense that they can freely navigate and share in their websites.

Today, everyone acknowledges the importance of a creative and catchy logo design. We guess a nice-looking logo is the most important point in branding. This is acknowledged by official institutions as well as companies that have economic concerns. The “symbol competition” held by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey is one of the most important evidences to this. The winner logo of the competition held with the aim of introducing a catchy and charismatic Turkish Lira symbol in order to increase the prestige and recognition of Turkish Lira was announced by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan on March 1, 2012. (₺) is the new face of Turkish Lira since then.

Dollar owes its charisma to its interesting logo as well as the strong economy of the United States of America. And the dollar sign ($) does not only mean dollar but also money all around the world. Dollar sign appears in the eyes of the people who see the colour of money in cartoons. This is one of the most significant examples of the success in logo design.

The areas of usage of the logo are also quite wide. Logos that can be employed by any institution and organization can be used in business cards, advertising boards, shop signs, key holders, calendars, agendas and many other articles, thereby attracting attention and customer.
